Chapter 250 What would your dad say?

"What do you mean?" Sophie said. " Ronnie, if you know we'll be good together..."

"Sophie, think for a minute, will ya?" he said, exasperated. "How do you think it will be once our parents are married?"

"Nothing has to change," she said shrugging carelessly.

"Are you kidding me?" Ronnie ran his hands through his hair, causing Sophie to crave doing the same. "So, we do this, we have sex so you're no longer a virgin, then what?"

She grinned impishly. "We live happily ever after, of course. Isn't that how every fairytale story ends?" With a wave of her hand she indicated the movie they had sort of been watching.

"Right, because real life is just like a fairytale and it ends with a happy ending every time!" he said sarcastically. "Listen to me, Sophie. It won't work...not for me. How do you think I'll feel every time our families get together? For Christmas, for Easter, every Thanksgiving day for the rest of our lives and..."

Sophie counted on her fingers. "Memorial day, Labor day, Flag day, Independence day, President's day, Columbus day, St. Patrick's day, St. Valentine's--oh, wait, that one's just for lovers so we'll have to meet up on our own. Chanukkah, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Passover--oh, wait, we're not Jewish. Not Muslim either so we don't gotta worry about Rombel-lam-de dah... or however you say the national terrorist day. Oh, yes and there's every single birthday, and there's gonna be graduations and sporting events and dance recitals and... Geeze, we're gonna see a lot of each other! What fun!" she said, laughing.

"You're unbelievable," he said shaking his head again. "You're not taking this seriously at all, are you?"

"No, I'm not and neither should you."

"But I have to," he said. "How do you think I'll feel when I see you at all those family gatherings and the only thing I can think of is , oh, there's my step-sister, Sophie. I was the first one to bang her?"

Chapter 249 That's the problem

Ronnie decide it was best to ignore Sophie's suggestion for as long as he could, so he moved toward the cat and scratched her behind the ear muttering to her, “How ya doing there, Buddy-boy?”

She's a girl...Calendula,” Sophie said.

Gesundheit,” Ronnie said, smirking up at her.

Sophie laughed. “I suppose I should feed her,” she said.

Why? She's happy now,” he said, stroking her chin in just the right spot—you could tell because she started a very loud purring—the cat, that is, not Sophie. Although Sophie did feel a bit jealous just the same because the stupid cat was getting more attention from him than she was.

Okay, then...what should we do now?” she said, sitting beside him.

Until they finish with the tree...or run off to Vegas... um...” Ronnie looked around and grabbed the remote for the TV and started the Frozen movie where they had left off before his Grandmother dragged his brothers and sister away.

We're seriously gonna watch a kids movie?” she said.

How else ya gonna learn all the Disney Princesses?” he asked and he proceeded in telling her about the princess sisters Elsa and Anna and the names of the sundry other characters.

Although she could not possibly have cared a rat's flying tail, she listened raptly to the sound of his voice and could easily imagine him talking like this--soft and low-- to her after a night of splendid, mind-blowing sex...intimately sharing secrets. Oh, the things she would do with him!

Chapter 248 The Nice guy gets the girl

Maybe...maybe we should just forget this and take Cassie Christmas shopping and...” Ronnie stopped at the venomous look from his brother. “Or not.”

Simon took a moment to compose himself rearranging well chosen words in his mind before speaking. “The thing is, Cassandra,” He began slowly, turning his back on the others and speaking only to her. “You have a dilemma. Your father has you under his thumb and won't let you live your dream. Your only way out from under that thumb, as I see it, is to get married and...”

“So, that I can be under someone else's thumb? Yours in this case. I don't think so!” Cassandra shouted. “I've already turned down three guys so one more won't bother me.”

Wait, wait, wait! Are you serious? Three different guys have asked you to marry them?” Sophie said.

I guess you're not the only one who has guys falling at your feet,” Ronnie said, looking impressed.

Chapter 247 What was she supposed to do now

Sophie stood at the bottom of the stairs, arms akimbo, totally miffed and wondering what was she supposed to do now. Ronnie was stuck on this “We're gonna be related” crap and he was not cooperating at all. He wouldn't do as she asked and “do” her making her simultaneously the happiest girl in the world and no longer a virgin—the two most important things on her What-I-want-for-Christmas list and being he very possibly was the first guy she met who didn't want to have her, she really didn't know what to make of it.

This was new territory. She usually had to beat the guys away with a Louisvile slugger, but Ronnie... he didn't even want to look at her!

Honestly, what is wrong with him?” she mumbled.

Meew.”

Sophie looked down and there was her mother's cat who never had liked her and always made her tickle-ly in the nose. “What? Hasn't anyone fed your fat face today?” she snapped.

Affronted, Calendula glared through slitted eyes, turned her bushy tail and sauntered into the living room.

Sophie would have followed the cat and eventually feed her, but at that moment she heard loud pounding coming from upstairs.

What the hell is he doing up there?” she muttered. She waited a moment and had been about to go back up to see what Ronnie was doing when a curious thought struck her, a smile curved her lips and instead she followed the cat.

Know what, Calendula? Sounds to me like...like somebody is frustrated and that somebody is Ronnie. Isn't that awesome?” Sophie said to the cat who had curled up on a blanket Violet placed at the end of the love seat for her use.

Calendula gave her a look which clearly said, “And I should care why?”

Don't you see, you silly cat? Ronnie does want me, but he's just being a good boy or trying to be, but he's no angel. He's just a guy like all the others. He can only take so much before he caves, so...It may take some doing, but he'll be putty in my hands soon enough. I just gotta play it right.”

Just then she heard the tinkling of glass breaking in the other room. “Hmm...here I thought you'd be the one knocking Mom's glass ornaments off the tree, but I guess not this time. Maybe we can still blame you if it's one she especially liked.”

Calendula blinked slowly as she watched Sophie leave, then she licked at her right paw completely unconcerned.

* * * * *

Simon,” Cassandra said, breathless from his kiss. “You're kidding, right?”

About?” he asked.

She stared at him, bewildered. Perhaps she misheard? She must have done. “Um... nothing...never mind,” she said.

Simon grinned and touched her cheek again. “What I'd like to know, and see if you can answer this for me, Cassandra, because I'm rather curious, is how does you father intend for you to become this antiquated model of a woman, all barefoot and pregnant and stuck in the kitchen, if you don't ever go anywhere where you could meet your Prince Charming?” he said. “I mean, you can't become what your father expects of you without a husband, right? A medieval man would work best, I suppose, but where does one find one in this day and age, do you think? Besides, the Middle East of course. They won't do. They're all too busy raping, pillaging and beheading. I'm quite certain they're all exceedingly exhausted from it all, far too much to take on a pretty little wife like you.”

Chapter 246 My First Time

So...the favor...you just want me to keep you safe? Is that it?” Ronnie asked, taking his arm from around Sophie. It had started feeling entirely too nice having her lean on him, so close and warm, and too intimate , so he moved away and turned to face her squarely.

She shook her head. “You heard me right, Ronnie. I want my first time to be with someone I trust, and someone I like and respect. Someone sweet and nice, and... that's you.”

He gaped at her again, speechless. He opened his mouth but nothing came out. He didn't understand how she could always strike him dumb without even trying? She could not be serious, though. This was impossible!

He shook his head. “You're lying.”

Uh...no, I'm not. I do like and trust you.”

Not...that.... it's just....it's just not possible,” he said.

Chapter 245 Don't say a word

Ronnie was about to speak but Sophie slapped a hand over his mouth, and putting a finger to her own lips, mouthed, “Shh...Don't say a word, just listen.”

But there was nothing to hear. Simon and Cassandra were still kissing and it sure didn't seem they were likely to stop any time soon. Sophie grabbed Ronnie's hand and tugged him toward the stairs, away from the family room. They had a silent argument-- done with only hand gestures and menacing looks-- which went something like this:

Let's go up to my room.”
What for?”
So we can talk.”
About what?”
I'll show you when we get up there.”
But what about Cassie?”
She of all people deserves some fun.”
Yeah, but with Simon?”
Just come on!”

Ronnie took one last glance in the family room and after shaking his head at the sudden and complete change coming over his normally stoic and sensible brother, he followed Sophie up the stairs, knowing full well, no good could come from this.
